Author guidelines

General format

  • The video must be instructional, also giving written guidance & tips.
  • Your video clips must be narrated and in a step-by-step format.
  • Please follow the open-access IVORY video guidelines: doi.org/10.1002/lary.29020
  • Video narration should be in the passive and impersonal style, avoiding phrases such as ‘I used …’ or ‘I performed …’ and instead using ‘… was used’ and ‘… was performed’.

Video format

  • Video length: 3-5 minutes recommended (10 minutes maximum)
  • Narration is compulsory and in English only: either vocal or with captions/written
  • Resolution recommended: 1080p (Full HD) or 720p (HD)
  • Videos must be in .MP4 format and have a good close-up, focused view of the surgical field.
  • Video encoding: MPEG-4 AVC (H264) codec and bitrate ≤ 8Mb/s is recommended.
  • We strongly encourage including video for patient presentation, as well as pre/postoperative outcomes/scans.
  • Take-home messages should be clearly identified at the end of videos
  • Do not use any music or brand logos, and if you need to, only use a simple Arial font.

Patient Protection

  • Patient consent is compulsory for online video posting
  • You must not show patients’ faces, names, or any identifiable feature.

Brand Resources

Download the official Video Atlas brand package to prepare your submission. It includes cover slide templates, intro and outro videos, a thumbnail template, and the official watermark. Use these assets as provided—do not redesign fonts, colors, layouts, or graphic elements.

  • Cover templates: Replace placeholder text and add the required logos only. Choose the template that matches your logo requirements (none, subspecialty only, institutional, etc.).
  • Intro & outro videos: Use the official animations as supplied. Do not modify or crop them.
  • Thumbnail: Insert your image and update the title in its designated area. Do not change the title position, size, or formatting.
  • Watermark: Apply the official watermark during editing as shown in the included example.
